People who don't have a gold xbox live account can enter a 2-day Gold Trial code in order to "try" it out.
They're also used for when people can't pay the bill, so they try and rack up as many codes as they can to keep it free.

Question, do Xbox One trial codes work for 360 as well? I have 2 xbox one trial codes I believe. I'll PM you once I get home and find them.

The codes are universal, they will work on either console. You can also enter the codes online, I do this as it's faster.
