Microsoft: Windows 8.1 is an update, not a service pack

Windows 8.1 is more substantial than a traditional update and Microsoft wanted to make it very easy for customers to consume as well which is why it will be delivered through the Windows Store. It's important to note that when describing the update, she did not say that it was a service pack, but an update, which ties into the belief that Microsoft is done with the traditional service packs and will move to more prominent releases like Windows 8.1.

Windows 8.1 public preview gets June 26th launch date

Along with announcing that the upcoming major update for Windows 8 and RT will officially be called Windows 8.1, Microsoft has also announced a specific date for the release of the Windows 8.1 public preview. Owners of current Windows 8 and RT devices will be able to download the public preview on June 26th.

Plus as you saw in the first post it's an update not a Service Pack, which to me is really stupid. They've been relasing Service Packs forever now and only now they decided their going to take the route of what browser companies do, i.e Firefox 24.1 Beta, Firefox 24.2 Beta, and Chrome 8.991030.0 Beta and Chrome 8.991030.1 Beta...

Hopefully the update will include the start button (which should have never been taken away). At least we know it isn't a paid upgrade, so that is good news.

That would something that I hated when upgrading to Windows 8. Something that people use everyday, they took away. Makes no sense.

God damn it this operating system is a complete disaster. No update or service pack can fix this garbage. We need W9 to unify the desktop environment once more.
