Do you have a Restore point available at the time of when It was functioning correctly?

If so, hit a System Restore back to that time & date.

last restore point was from after it started happening

On the grounds It's not a hardware Issue, perform a clean Installation of Windows and be done with It.

The amount of time It takes to troubleshoot the Issue (to no avail), Is not worth It. If you're organized, you'd be up and running In around 90 minutes with a clean Install- and that's on a bad day.

so i was speaking to a friend on discord today and i decided to turn some music on but the music kept cutting out

If the Issue has persisted right after the event, It may well be the case.

If not, I'd seriously hit a clean Installation of Windows. Problem solved within the hour. If It's Windows 8 or Windows 10, selecting "Refresh your PC" or "Keep my files" respectively via Advanced Startup, will not delete your personal files.

Try using iobit driver booster and there should be a option where you can fix “no sound” most of the time it will fix it with ease
