I went to the IRC server to check it out, but it looks very inactive.
Why so?

I had the same experience. Every tutorial i read at first told me that irc was going to be where i found all the real hackers but i ve yet to find this elusive place on irc where all these "real" hackers hang out. I went through three hours of trial and error just to find no one one sinisterlys channel. Lol.
