The huge companies have millions of user accounts. They need a lot of resource to keep it all in their database. But you're probably right, they tend to keep it longer just to be on the safe side.

It's not an Issue for companies on a large scale- they have the resources to accommodate It.
Given Facebook has well over 2 billion users and Is actively maintained, those In the millions, shouldn't be a problem.
