I'm running:
Ryzen 7 2700x
Gtx 1080ti
32gb DDR4 G-Skill Ripjaw
Evga 1000w Gold PSU
Asrock x470 Mobo
Corsair Liquid Cooling
Dual Boot Win 10 and Kali Linux

Took me FOREVER to build this. But I love it.

Like I said though, what are you guys running? Even if it's a laptop post your specs!

Ryzen processors are the best I've ever used (the AMD A8 was very nice for my DDR3 build)
I also swear by ASRock motherboards, great choice.
How old is your 1080ti? Has it stood up well? I've got a 1060 that's so far been able to play everything I throw at it with no issue at all.

I agree on the Ryzen Processors. Best I have come across for the price. It can hold it's own against Intel plus is more than capable of running a workstation. I love it. The 1080ti is a recent upgrade. About 3 months old. I absolutely love it over my 1060 that I had. At the same time.. The 1060 performed very well. All in all the 1080ti is a great choice. All the things that I am hearing about the 2080ti has been disastrous and I am glad I made the choice not to pre-order one. I figured the first series would be a little iffy anyways. I'll give them some time to come out with a few generations and then sell the 1080ti for an upgrade.

Yeah I've heard pretty terrible things about the 2080ti as well. Not surprising, considering they lost an entire freight carrier load after delaying it's release for much longer than expected. Still though, I think you're right. It's best to give them time to get it sorted before coughing up the cash for it.

I can't even begin to fathom how the cheap chinese knockoffs you'd find on Geek or Wish would fare. I bought a 1080ti for $35 on the Geek app to see just how "too good to be true" it was. I ran a benchmark and it registered as a 1080ti but in my devices it was listed as a GTX 980M and the heatsink was poorly shaved plastic.

I guess there was no contributing point to that second bit, but long story short, if the 2080 ever sees a decent light of day, don't get it from a knockoff source. I've heard stories of a few people that rarely do get actual good ones, but it's really not worth the risk.

Currently i have an i5 6400, gtx 960., 8gb ddr3 ram, 5tb hdd, 128gb ssd and a 450 watt psu

Pretty low-mid end right now but leaks are saying that in quarter 1 of 2019 amd will have a new ryzen series upping the core count by 2 on ryzen 3 and 5 and upping it by 4 on ryzen 7. So the ryzen 7 will have 12 cores and 24 threads. All this for NO price increase from the last gen.

And in quarter 2/3 amd will release gpu’s that will outperform the 20 series from nvdia while being ALOT cheaper.

So i have maybe 1.5k saved up rn

If you already have 1.5k saved up you are well on your way to having one bad ass machine! Also I am very excited for Ryzen's new processors. I'll probably sell my build and throw another one together somewhere in mid 2020 or so. Can't wait to see what the future brings!

I can't answer for everyone, but several of us are gamers. That should explain half of it!

My Rig:
Intel i9-9900k Coffee Lake @ 3.6Ghz
64GB of DDR4 G.Skill RGB Ram
EVGA Geforce GTX 980 CLASSIFIED 4GB VRAM
Corsair 1200w Power supply
Asus Maximus XI Extreme Motherboard
Asus RYU 240 Closed Loop water cooler with LCD Screen
9TB of Hard Drive (1 500gb Samsung SSD)
Asus Blu-Ray Burner/Writer
Generic 24x Writer/Burner
NXT Red Case

In case you're wondering I'm a film editor and a gamer Wink
Most games I'm running on 95+ FPS on High-Ultra or Ultra settings. The reason for the insane amount of hard drive space is the average movie I edit is in 4K/30FPS and about 5-15 minutes long, this means that I'm eating up 15+GB of space each render/edit/export.

My main computer is a laptop I scored for $100 that I turned into a $1000 rig.
Quad core i7 2.21GHz
16GB DDR4
750GB SSHD
1TB SSD
No real GPU to speak of. But I can run multiple virtual systems at the same time, which allows for me to abuse the shit out of online apps requiring referrals to make money. And I can run Android x86 in multiple iterations to run mining apps, etc.

Desktop Mini-Server & Security Coding Environment:
Quad Core i3 3.5 GHz w/ hyper threading enabled and a voltage increase for 4 cores at 3.75GHz
8GB DDR4 RAM
5TB in HDD/SSD combo
256MB on-board GPU

Working on getting a new ATI GPU to help crack passwords faster and allow for faster compiling.
Unfortunately the drivers for everything in the damn thing are barely compatible with Windows 7 without a straight all-in-one driver package. I find desktops to be a pain in the arse compared to how much power I can stuff into my lappies.
Even my crappiest machine is the rare dual-core INTEL Atom 1.66GHz Processor with an onboard DDR3 1GB chip soldered on. The dual 32bit CPU for some reason clicks together to run 64bit architecture. These strange things combined plus a custom flashed BIOS gives me 3GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and 2GHz CPU with an nVidea ION GPU (not sure of the amount of memory or GPU speed, BIOS doesn't say). Too much information, but I have a lot of strange setups that allow for tons of different options as far as what I want to do; Coding, gaming, downloading, intranet hosting, and even an email server.
And of course, everything runs through a VPN router hard wired into the modem, with every individual machine also running its own VPN connection. Double VPN with fresh, always changing proxies for the download machine.
