It's like every service these days wants my mobile phone number, which I'd prefer not to give since it's rather easy to determine one's physical location from that point. As I'm in the uh...security business, that doesn't work for me. Do any of you know of a VoIP Service, or any other way, to use SMS from a Linux desktop/laptop, versus a phone? All the VoIP Services I have found offer SMS Sending, but not receiving. Surely one of you guys have figured out such a workaround for this 2 factor authentication nonsense, right?

I believe all the citizens should know what is going on in the US and the current country I live in. In some extent, It comes down to what it is like, if the world was gonna get attacked by a mist then, that's something that should be told to the public. Because, the government doesn't tell us shit what is going down.

You're giving all of us private information right now. Most of the time you sign away your rights to privacy when you register, agree to terms, work for a certain company, etc.

Although you might be right about companies abusing data, you might also consider that you're one of billions. My point then being, even though something malicious, say identity theft may happen to you because of your digital footprint, there is a small chance that you will be targeted so your concern is illogical. I'm not saying there's fault in being paranoid. Most security professionals are and it's wise to be.

From reading what it does, wouldn't that mean you are spoofing your actual number to the receipt or, can have different numbers?

You're welcome.

They actually route all calls from your number to their service, hence (In terms of outgoing calls), the recipient will see the burner number rather than your own.
The same applies when the roles are reversed.

An interesting app, but I use my laptop with a Cellular USB Modem (GSM/ CDMA), so my phone is not in the equation. I'm looking for a pure VoIP solution. Ideally, just a desktop app like Skype or any open-source soft-phone would work. Not Skype itself actually, as the US Government has had a back-door into that one forever, but like that from a GUI perspective. I'm glad I'm not the only one who still values my privacy and believes it's possible to keep it
