Really interesting thread, I only have experience with Booking.com and they were really bad one time I was in Italiy and the place was infested with bed bugs and sorts and they didn't offer our money back.

funny because i actually live italy lol, joke aside
i’m trying to see if there’s any link about booking.com guest policy and reviews of refunds for bad stays, but it sounds strange i always had the impression that they are also more flexible with giving refunds

How and Did you get in touch directly with the hotel or the booking resolution centre?
I see now that for this type of problems if you filling out images/details proves and you insist your refund is 100% insured
