DIY Custom Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck Box Tutorial (PSD)
How to Design, Print, and Build Custom Starter Deck Boxes at Home

I've always been a huge fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! since I was little! For all my custom decks, I always wanted a special deck box to match them. Back in 2022, I stumbled upon an incredible PSD template (by Grezar) and used it to print custom nostalgic designs like the original Yugi, Kaiba, and Joey Starter Decks onto manila cardstock. I even managed to sell a few!

Here is a full step-by-step tutorial on how you can make your own for personal use or to sell custom designs.

Step 1: Download the Template & Materials

Required Materials:

• Software: Adobe Photoshop or Photopea (Free Browser Alternative)
  
• Paper Stock: Manila folder material, heavy cardstock (250gsm – 300gsm), or matte photo paper
  
• Tools: Craft knife / X-Acto blade, steel ruler, cutting mat, and a bone folder (or dry ballpoint pen for scoring)
  
• Adhesive: Fast-drying craft glue, clear tacky glue, or strong double-sided tape

Step 2: Customize Your Design

1. Open the downloaded PSD template in Photoshop or Photopea.
2. Edit the Smart Objects or layer groups to insert your artwork, character renders, logos, and deck titles (e.g., Starter Deck Yugi / Kaiba / Joey styling).
3. Ensure your artwork extends slightly past the fold lines (bleed area) so no white edges appear after cutting.
4. Export your final layout as a high-resolution PDF or PNG (300 DPI).

Step 3: Printing, Cutting, & Assembly

1. Printing: Print your file at 100% scale (Actual Size) onto your manila cardstock or heavy paper so the card dimensions remain accurate.

2. Scoring the Fold Lines: Before cutting the shape out, use your steel ruler and a bone folder (or an empty ballpoint pen) to lightly score along all folding lines. This prevents the cardstock from cracking when bent.

3. Cutting Out the Box: Align your steel ruler along the outer solid lines and cut carefully using an X-Acto knife or craft scalpel.

4. Folding & Gluing: Pre-fold all flaps along your scored lines. Apply a thin layer of craft glue or double-sided tape to the side and bottom assembly flaps, press firmly, and hold for 30 seconds until set.
