First off, obtain a serial from wherever you can.
Search the forums, buy one off a member, google, etc.

Second, get a receipt, or make one.
This is key, 90% of the time they don't follow through with verifying the sale, they just verify that you have a receipt.

Third, call a local store such as BestBuy, say something along the lines of this
"Hello, I just got home after purchasing [Product] from one of your outlets, when I got home, I started to unbox the Tv when I noticed the wrap of the tv smeared with some type of liquid, after unwrapping it more, it appears that it has/had a chemical leak, I was wondering if I should take it back to the store. (Say something like you don't want to ruin your new cars seats though, and you only have a car) Or if you should have someone certified remove it.

OR
Say something along the lines of this. "Hello, I just bought [Product] from your store, and when I got home, the TV was non-functional, I tried to return it about half an hour ago at a local store and they said it was deliberately tampered with, and would not exchange it for a new one. They offered to give me a "replacement" of lesser value since they believe that I tampered with it, even though my receipt shows that I just had bought it an hour before. Is there anything better you could do for me? If I have to accept this lesser TV, I will never shop at [Store] again, that is a promise."

That's the turning point, if they ask you to return it to the store say you WILL NOT do that because your not risking your new furnished car and health over a TV. DEMAND a replacement. having a box of the TV helps (If you choose to just go to the store and pick it up)
