Can I confirm that everything they advertise is true? No, however, the service looks pretty fantastic and the layout is also so simplistic, a 5 year old could figure it out. I just home their security structure isn't as minimalistic.

Tutanota is my most favorite secure email service, as it's open-source, located in Germany and not hard to use. Otherwise, I'd just use providers such as 10 Minute Mail.

ProtonMail & Tutanota are the only two I personally trust with securing my e-mails and properly encrypting them - Tutanota is also really good especially if you don't like waiting, it's instant.

It is literally not difficult to get a protonmail invite code though. Can be done with a google search

Hopefully the service will be back up shortly, they've been hit with large attacks since Tuesday.
