It is actually possible trough wifi, if it is enabled on most smartphones.
The Concept: A smartphone that has it's wifi turned on automaticly searches for trusted networks (A trusted network is a network that has been used before and is saved on the device for example "Starbucks Free Wifi"). When you put a network somewhere (most smartphones has this ability) you can change your Service Set Identifier (SSID aka the name of your network) to "Starbucks Free Wifi" and it automatically connects. From this point all apps will start updating and you get tons of data. But you could also use it to gps track them and transmit the data trough the wifi. But Wifi has a limited range? Yes put there are some solutions. Extenders etc. But the most intresting is a drone. With a drone you could follow them anywhere around.
As far as the bluetooth hacking goes. There was this bluetooth app on the old phones (bit heavier, no camera, no touchscreen types) that could connect to any bluetooth signal in range and access the phones files, call logs etc. You could call people trough the phone or shut it off remotely. That was fun

But still for 24/7 tracking you will need third party sofware installed on the device.

why dont to try to trace him using the way people get location of another person on facebook?? try the netstat -an command or get the IP address and trace him/her :troll:

my dad and I were talking one day he said people fly little drones that send out wifi signals and if it connects to the phone with the wifi they can get in that way? is this related to what you're talking about/what people do?

Yes which gives me the idea that mounting a stingray device on a small drone is like a Treasure Box for the NSA lol, might be possible.
