The Zig Programming Language - Like C With a Few Extra Goodies 11-01-2017, 05:08 PM

Zig is a new language being developed. The creator aims to maintain the elegant simplicity of C, but making the language safer to develop in.
It has features such as:
- A replacement for #includes that does more than simple text replacement.
- Safe generics support through compile-time parameters.
- Checks for undefined behavior in compiler debug mode.
- A built in build system.
- A built in error type for a universal error handling system.
- Not built on libc. Competes with C rather than relies on it.
Zig has a very C-like syntax. It's still under development and hasn't hit version 1 yet. The developer is looking to source enough money through his patreon to work on the language full time.
Here's the article I initially discovered it from: https://jaxenter.com/zig-language-kelley...38517.html

My thoughts? Zig is a cool little project, but there is currently no market for a C replacement. C is simply everywhere, and won't be dethroned for a very long time. That said, if Zig is anywhere near as powerful and portable as C, then I'll develop in it. I just don't think it'll be adopted by the industry at large. There's also no guarantee the project will be completely finished.
What do you think?
