This is a tutorial on setting up fatalz modded version of UnrealIRCD on a CentOS VPS and some useful IRC tips. This tutorial was written 100% by ToXiiC and no one else so if you leech keep my credits in here. Now let's get started

Phase 1 (Getting the VPS ready):

NOTE: Everything on CentOS is case sensitive. When I capitalize something in this tutorial, that means it has to be capitalized when you type it in putty or whatever SSH client you use.

1. Using an FTP client like FileZilla, navigate to the typesizes.h file "usually located in usr/include/bits" and open it in notepad and search for "1024". Change "1024" to 50000.

2. Use putty or any other SSH client you feel comfortable with to root into your VPS and type "wget www.SecurityDoesntExist.net/fatalz.gz".

3. Unzip the file using the command "tar -zxvf fatalz.gz".

4. Delete the fatalz.gz file using the command "rm fatalz.gz" and when it asks for a confirmation type "y" and click enter.

5. Navigate to the Fatalz directory using the command "cd Fatalz".

6. Type "ulimit -n 50000"

7. Now here is an important part, type "./Config" Keep clicking enter until you get to a part that says, "How many file descriptors (or sockets) can the IRCd use? [1024] ->" and type 50000 and then start clicking enter again.

8. After clicking enter enough times it should start writing all the configuration settings and to you it will look like a bunch of text rapidly moving. Once it stops doing that, type "make" to compile your server.

Phase 2 (Configuration and Starting):

Okay, most of this section will consist of editing the unrealircd.conf file rather than doing anything in putty. So first you will need to go HERE and download notepad++ because in the regular notepad, the config file will just look like a bunch of random crap. After doing this, sftp into your VPS with FileZilla and go to the "Fatalz" directory and drag the "unrealircd.conf" to your desktop and then open it in notepad++ and we can begin our steps.

First, scroll down and find this line:

and change it to

Now, scroll down some more and find this line:

listen *:1988; listen *:8890; // for linking

...Delete the line "listen *:8890; // for linking" and for the port "1988" change that to the port you want your IRC to connect on.

Now, right under that you will see...

This is an oper line... basically your login. Change were it says "hex" at the top to your alias and change the text "podzemlje.net" to what you want your password to be.

Now, hit CTRL-H and replace all the lines saying "fatalz.edu" with "fake.com"

Hang in there man, we are almost finished.

Scroll down until you find the line:

oper-auto-join "#fatal";

This is saying that when someone gets oper (or logs in), it will automatically open the channel #fatal. I don't really like a channel popping up everytime I get oper so I usually just keep it blank but if you want all opers to automatically join a channel for chatting like #Lobby or something than set it to that.

Now find:

And replace all that with:

Stay with me bro, we are extremely close to the end.
Save the file and upload it back into your VPS's 'Fatalz' directory.

Now, go to putty or whatever SSH client you use and root into your VPS.
Type the following commands.
1. "cd Fatalz"
2. "./unreal start"

Now you should be able to connect to your IRC server !!
Open up whatever IRC client you use such as mIRC and for the server DNS/IP put your VPS IP and for the port, put the port you configured earlier in the tutorial.
