I diversified mine. Especially the Scripting challenges. But SO is really good practice, besides Hack this site.....

Yes SO is good for practice for beginners specially the realistic and advanced challenges. Though I would have wanted more exercises on Network Analysis using Wireshark (I like this a lot ) and more on Software Cracking too since I am poor with that one (i don't have much experience and neither much interest ).

But HackThisSite is down. Are you able to open HTS ?

See, if you want to be good at the software cracking, you gotta know assembly x86 very well. I learned that many years ago for fun from my Dad's IBM 8086/8088 technical manuals (exciting childhood huh?). But I dont think its only for beginners (I would rate myself as being High Intermediate to advanced overall, but an Expert in Software Reverse Engineering ), in fact many professionals practice on SO and were the ones who told me about this site. Granted you can't be very creative because these are simulations, but they do their job. And you gotta know what you are doing, which I doubt many beginners know was CrossScripting or x86 is....

Hahaha, I wish we could actually trap the packets before analyzing them on wireshark.....

HTS was working two days ago, but yeah, i think they are down....

Yeah I am getting in Softwar Cracking. I already have the prerequisites required to RE. (though I need to work more on ASM to be very honest)

Pinged it from my external server "everything is peachy"

Note to self... SO doesn't like it when you try to do more then the challenge asks of you.

I believe that. SO is just simulations, you're not supposed to do the actual thing, cause its not meant to handle it.

I was kicked out of a class on Metasploit a while back for Knocking down the AntiVirus, bypassing the Hypervisor, changing the Screensaver to say "heil Hitler" bouncing around that was locked by a password (which was heil hitler.... hahahaha), and then crashing the Testing Box we were all connected to (by deleting a dll drive that was running in the back, causing the Blue Screen of death to show up, and made more funnier by the fact that it was connected to a projector hahaha) after the instructor was bascially ignoring me through out the entire class. I admitted to it, but it was so worth it. Everybody in the class asked me for my contact info.

this is kinda like suggesting that a 20-21 year old who can change his own car oil is a master mechanic. Most 20-21 years old can't do that. Hell most 40-50 year olds cant do that. But that doesn't make them a master of anything. It means they have very basic knowledge of a car.

Congrats - You solved a few challenges designed for noobs. Doesn't mean your a master. It means you have very basic knowledge on a very vast subject.

Oh and I am a hacker. If you're really 20-21 i've been hacking and coding about as long as you have been alive. Hell I was hacking before I even knew what hacking was. Years before I even had an internet connection no less. So no... people that identify as hackers are not all wannabes. Hacking is a mindset. Hacking is a lifestyle. Hacking opens your eyes and your mind. I am a hacker, and damn proud of it.
