I assume there's good reason for it, but if there isn't, why not add a shoutbox. There are a lot of times where I don't want to spam threads to ask a simple question, but I guess I could just use the discord. Anyway, don't see why adding a shoutbox would hurt they are very useful

No need to apologize, you have every right to submit a suggestion.

I've posted my thoughts on why It's not needed. Others may see otherwise.

Can I be frank ? This whole discord thing doesn't interest me. I'll be the one to say it, I know for a fact there are plenty of members who would rather not go on a other site to chat with fellow members. The convenience of a shoutbox would be so great. I would 100% be more active on here if there was a shoutbox, no doubt about it. On the other hand, I do see it being problematic as well. Some members might be less active with it around. It'd have to be a trial and error type thing to see the statistics though.

This has already been discussed before. For most people the discord does what they want. In addition, we keep out plugins to a minimum, as if I recall shoutbox has a history of having security problems.

There you have it: it is both an unpopular opinion and a potential security risk. That alone should mean something.

I could implement it easily, without it being a security risk. However, we've done this before, and we even had a Facebook-esque chat feature. Discord is a much better option for communication. A shoutbox would only detract from activity.

Shoubox was the In-thing on boards quite a few years ago, but for reasons already mentioned, most have opted to remove It.

I had one on my board and as per Oni's post, It did Impact on activity.
