Skeptical on dry ice method (1.8KG) #1
I purchased a new keyboard K70 Corsair that I intended to replace with my old one a post it back to Amazon claiming that I was sent the wrong item. I purchased this from the Amazon warehouse section to improve the likely hood that this would work.

However, I failed to account for 2 things those being that Amazon would have a weight measured of what I was posted ( I have only SE'ed small items before ) and that my old keyboard doesn't fit inside the box and leaves the internal box sticking out in a very obvious way and that the keyboard is noticeably lighter.

I then decided I would try and pull this off but now think this would not work. I have now come across the dry ice method but the weight on the Amazon packaging is marked as 1.8 KG.

https://youtu.be/vPhZzsAgc7Q?t=14

This is is what 0.9 kg of dry ice looks like. How I'm supposed have the smoke not so blatantly obvious and allow the gas to escape for nearly 2x the amount in the video.

I'm leaning towards getting dry ice pellets delivered to use but I am still sceptical and may just return it as it may be a bit risky. As of yet, I have not contacted Amazon and the item arrived yesterday. Amazon account is only with 1 instances of SE with a lot of purchases over 6 years. Check my first post to see the background on that.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you

You're over complicating things now, use the box method it should work like a charm. If I were to use the box method I would make sure to tape up any openings that way the gas doesn't seep out when you're at the post office.
Good luck. If you need further help just ask around!

I would have to seal the box with a cover because nobody would accept a package where the box cant close. I'm looking at a bin bag and taping it all around. But would Amazon even in the first place sell something where the box doesn't close at all?. They would have a protocol where they cant ship something if the box is not sealed? and would have raised flags when they initially had it returned to them from the previous purchaser don't you think.

And with sealing the box with a bag with this much dry ice wouldn't it have a chance of vapours being present when they opened it. Let alone have the small likely hood of expanding the container. The only way around this is to create small air holes.

I'm looking at adding around 0.4kg to bring the weight of the package up and then telling Amazon that the product does not work. As I have read they don't check very hard when items are returned that are under faulty. Can anybody think of something I can place or hide to add weight ?.

The gross weight Is 1.8 kg, which Is Immaterial.

What's the net weight? That's what the dry Ice should be based on.

the keyboard weights 1.140kg

and the packaging weights 500 grams

and the packaging says the total is 1.8 kg

so 1.3kgish of dry ice still seems like a lot for me.

That's what I wanted to establish.

Rather than boxing, you should've opted for the DNA method.

That would raise red flags, check out my first post if you want to see why. Where I live parcel theft does not happen and also the postman handed the parcel to me as I was expecting to return the item with my old keyboard.

I believe that I should just return the item in this instance or just keep it and take this as I learning experience.

Really appreciate the messages I'll try not to lurk as much and return the help.

Thank you

PS does anyone know off an active Uk SE'ing services I stumbled across a few posts but none seem active or based in another country.

Evidently, you cannot change your story. Doing so Is an admission of guilt.

I see your point with parcel theft, but just because It's not a commonality In your locality, It doesn't mean It cannot and will not happen. For Instance, If you didn't personally accept the delivery and It was left at the front door of your home, as far as you're concerned, It didn't arrive- hence stolen. Even If It was delivered at your local post office and requires a signature for pickup, that's also easily bypassed. There's "always" a way to circumvent every person, entity and situation.

Where I live is an everyone knows everyone places the post office is family run so that's out of the question as they know me well. My only hope is to send my old keyboard in its place and hope they don't be too alarmed by it not closing properly. I haven't contacted Amazon yet so I can go either way. I'll let you know what I decide.
