Well, I think that will be based on your personal opinion after having read the book. lol. Which I respect regardless if you like it or not.

For example. When you cried until your Parents gave you what you wanted. Using your fits and crying. You manipulated your parents into doing what you wanted. Also. SEing doesn't have to be seen in a negative light or always used in a negative way. I plan to write about the Positive ways you can use SEing instead of always using it to cause problems. Regardless. If you wanted to become an Ethical Hacker, Penetration tester or White hat hacker. You must first learn all of the Black hat ways. If people choose to use this for Black hat activities, that's their choice, and if they get caught. Then they are the one's who have to suffer the consequences.

You're saying this to someone who's SE'd his ways into countless things.

I know what Social Engineering is. But think practically. You're not going to cry your way into somebodies hosting account. That's not happening for obvious reasons.

You're going to end up writing a large paperweight, kind of like "The art of human hacking" by good ol Mitnick.

But you go ahead and do what you want. It's a great idea - yes, but it's not going to be put to use.

I will agree with you on "You're not going to cry your way into somebodies hosting account. That's not happening for obvious reasons." Also, I know quite alot of people who read Kevin Mitnick's paperweight. Myself being counted among them. Whether or not it's put to use. Isn't the point. Insight, Perspective, and Getting someone to think differently even if it's just a bit. Is the point. "Give a man a Truth, and he will think for a day. Teach a man to reason, and he will think for a lifetime."

I'm inclined to agree. Social engineering is normally used to do things that are morally wrong. After all, you're manipulating and deceiving other human beings. That being said, everyone lies, and sometimes for the better. For example, if your friend asks you, "Do you like my shirt?" You might, in all honesty hate his shirt. However, if he's a good friend you might say something like, "It's alright." I sometimes find the actual psychology around the subject interesting, but it's not something you can make a lot of money off of ethically.

Which is why when SEing you should throw out morals and ethics and focus on the fact that you're getting something for free.

That's true, but, if you ignore the security flaws in humans and their ability to be manipulated. Then you fail to be prepared against someone who doesn't ignore such a fundamental weakness, and this will only affect your skills in a negative manner as a hacker. Whether it be White hat, Grey hat, or Black hat. What I do want to talk about in my novel though. Is the Morality and knowing when to draw the line at what you consider to be Morally unacceptable. Some people have no morals or ethic's and won't stop no matter who they are trying to manipulate and take advantage of. However, this is mostly due to immaturity. Any true SE has to have a certain moral ground, against manipulating others and taking advantage of them. Like you, I find the Psychology behind it interesting, and while I don't SE personally. I thoroughly enjoy the study of it, and learning about the many different methods, and how to do it.

You're talking about warranty exploitation, which isn't necessarily social engineering.

Yes, That is true. This is mostly considered Warranty/Policy Exploitation. Not really Social Engineering. To an extent some SEing is involved, but over all. It's not hard to sound convincing over a keyboard. So, I agree. It's not really Social Engineering.

Enough people seem to be interested in this, so, I will get started officially. As of tonight. I hope by the time I finish this novel/guide. Whatever you want to call it. You guys are a bit more enlightened on the world of SE, and that I bring something New to the table, or teach you something you may not have known. I don't claim to have all the answers or know everything. What I do have, is alot of time and effort I'm willing to put into this. To make it as good as I possibly can.
