I got a shiny new Arch VM up and running in order to configure everything exactly how I want it in a controlled environment before I dual boot my laptop. I consider myself a bash power user (and a bit of an OCD one at that), so I spend more time than I probably should tinkering with my prompt. What kind of cool stuff have you guys done with bash or zsh? Anything that's caught your eye around the internet but couldn't find a source for?

Here's my bash PS1 with the Operator Mono book suite in Xfce4 Terminal. I currently have a timestamp (duh), italicized user and host, gradient hostname and directory path, and a right aligned (which was a bitch to implement correctly) git branch tracker (green for clean tree, yellow + counter for inequal local/remote repos, red for dirty). If anyone wants the source for anything, just shoot me a PM.

Looks shnazy! Don't really like the font of the user and location tho. Cursive fonts are bad for my eyes

I like a little bit of cursive for the sake of variety, but nothing excessive. Nothing's set in stone, though, I'm gonna do a week or two of tweaking before I actually dualboot.

Sounds like a good plan. I've got a lot of respect for you to be customizing your shit to your liking. That's how Linux should be but a lot people, myself including, are either too lazy or dont want to do so. Maybe you should make a series of tuts on how to do so from beginner to advanced methods?

I like that idea of a series of tuts, would be nice, I would definitely check it out
