They just wanted a society where religion isn't the govern law. As I said earlier, I do not believe that a single group can control the world, they can however influence it a great deal. But not completely control it. Human greed and all that.

Wait if they didn't want religion to govern law why was the original group (of the Illuminati) very religious and excluded certain religions from joining their ranks?

They didn't want the law to be governed by religion. For example, they didn't want want someone to be given the death sentence based of religious beliefs. The goals of this society were to oppose "superstition" and "obscurantism", their main goals however. This included religion, though religion alone wasn't their main focus. In short, they want a government that didn't hold back information to gain the the upper hand, they wanted a "fair playground" of sorts. They also didn't want any form of superstition to govern law, including religion. (Religion at the time being the strongest superstition to affect law and order.) Anything that contradicted natural science was to be excluded from law and society control.

They however, didn't say that people couldn't be religious. They just didn't want people to around like; "This man deserves to die, because God said so." or that a King was "almighty" from birth thanks to God. Their overall goal was ironically, a great deal alike the one we have today.

Ohhh I see, that explains why they didn't accept certain religions

I firmly believe in multiple secret societies - check out my post on the enslavement of mankind through religion here.

Have you heard of Immortal Technique? He does a lot of raps about conspiracies.
