The main concern I'm having is that afaik they don't weigh returns at drop off as it's already paid for. First time it gets weighed is at some sorting center.

Paying for It Is one thing, Internal procedures Is quite another.

When It's dropped off, they need to check the consignment In, therefore weights & dimensions are taken for record keeping and cost of freight.

Which Is the depot.

Weights are taken again prior to distribution.

I did some research and apparently weights for returns are not taken when dropped off. Most of the corner shops where you can drop off parcels don't even have a scale, do they?

Right, but when it first gets weighed at the depot, it will be an issue.

It's Impossible to speak for each and every corner shop, but drop offs In general do weigh consignments for the reason mentioned In my previous post.

Because you can't know when the parcel will reach the depot and can't calculate the dry ice accordingly or am I wrong?

Doesn't matter for this SE anymore anyways as I have gone ahead with a different method. Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it.

As a social engineer yourself, It's all part of your "research" to establish transit/storage time when formulating your method.
