So for a while I used to browse a forum for leaks that was shutdown recently and it initially got me into SEing through a friend of mine but recently I remembered this series I used to watch about scamming and was watching tons of episodes until I came across this clip.

This actually reminded me of a time a guy actually tried this on me and I called him out when he was making the switch and had him reset the money amount. Has anyone ever tried this or something similar? Leave out details if it's high profile

Face-to-face SE can be done in hotels, run in to any hotel as if you're in a rush and act like you're really in a rush and left behind something when you last stayed. Apparently most of the time they will let you look in lost and found

No doubt, distraction and a methodical/systematic execution was the key to success.

Has anyone ever tried this or something similar?

I've entered restricted buildings with ease. On one of many occasions during my physical pen testing of an organization, here's what I did.

* I researched the company for around a week. Viewed all traffic- personnel entering and exiting and the security In doing so.
* I dressed the part (suit, tie and briefcase) as though I was part of the workforce and arrived 15 minutes prior to start of business.
* I assumed an Important conversation on my cell phone (yes It was on silent In case someone called), and walked alongside a bunch of employees who had their own building entry codes (this was established via my research).
* I  purposely dropped my briefcase, with It's contents (paperwork) all over the pavement.
* A couple of employees came to my assistance and In the midst of gathering my belongings and being on the phone (hence my hands were full), I politely asked the gentleman to hold the door for me.
* Walked straight In thereafter.

The moral to the story, Is that "distraction" was the key element to the SE. Without question, "preparation" by way of research was paramount, so too was It's formulation and execution.

As Josh mentioned, go to any Hotel or really anywhere which has a lost and found and mention you lost "enter an item" - one I've done was I've lost my iPhone charger and snatch what you like

Haven't done this myself, though yeah I read this somewhere, suppose it's a decent method.
