SE questions #1
I’m relatively new to SE’ing. I have only SE’d Amazon, pretty simple really.

I’m currently researching options on different methods to use, and have a couple of questions I can’t find the answers to.

This is in relation to the Serial Number method. I’m aware of how to acquire serial numbers that are under warranty, my question is, when it comes to executing the SE, won’t the company in question ask for some sort of proof that the purchase took place? Like the account the order was made from, if indeed it was an online order, as I can’t see them just accepting a serial number as proof of purchase. Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I’m just trying to better my knowledge before I continue my SE journey.

Secondly, with a PayPal dispute, if they ask for proof I have sent the item back to the company, can I just simply send anything back, so long as it has a tracking number and I can show to PayPal that I have indeed sent something, albeit not the correct item?

On an unrelated note I’m planning on getting some AirPods from Argos, using the DNA method. I’m pretty confident my first SE will be a success and I will update here on my progress.

So I’ve managed to answer my own question with further research. Of course fake an invoice, removing metadata and such, now I have a second question.

When wanting to use the S/N method, for example a laptop, I have a serial number that is still under warranty, how do I choose which retailer to approach with this SE, are there any reasons it should be one retailer over another? Or can it be any company that sells the same laptop make/model I am planning to SE?

Again forgive me if the answer is obvious, I just want to be certain on everything.

^ This.

There's a possibility that they may ask you to contact the retailer, but simply say that you did and the retailer said to deal with the company.

So if it was Apple for example, I would execute the SE with Apple directly instead of a retailer?

Is there any reason of claiming I bought directly from manufacturer or to claim I bought from retailers? I guess what I mean is there any advantage, or could I still fake invoice/POP for a retailer and then go to the manufacturer with said invoice.

Under the above circumstances, the advantage of dealing directly with the manufacturer, Is that they need to perform an external Investigation with the retailer to cross-check the Invoice, some of which don't have the time and resources to do so.

If the POP Is from the same company/department, It'll literally take 20 seconds to verify It by punching the Invoice/order number Into their system.

That makes sense, thanks.
Would it matter who the warranty is with? So if the warranty was from the retailer you could still execute the SE with the manufacturer?

Essentially, a factory warranty Is set by the manufacturer and the retailer conforms to what they've applied and covered, so It can be done with the manufacturer.

This is a very good topic, I do have a similar question concerning SE. I've learnt quite a bit from this.

Just to go back to this @mothered
Could this put an abrupt end to the SE in your experience? Could the company just refuse to deal with it and place liability on the retailer? I’m guessing they could I’m just wondering how likely it would be and if it is still possible to continue the SE if you were to remain adamant the retailer won’t deal with it.

Every SE Is taken on a step-by-step basis, so It's difficult to determine the series of events that take place.

If the company Is adamant on dealing with the retailer and won't budge, then do exactly that. The SE will still well and truly continue.
