Well I scammed a scalper for a 3090 by claiming he sent me a printed out photo of a 3090 and not a 3090. It ended up working eBay sided with me. The scalper was scamming people trying to sell a used GPU for almost 4k so I didn't feel bad. None of the companies had any in stock for me to SE because of the scalper's bots buying all the stock. In any other circumstance, I think it would be messed up to scam a small seller but this guy deserved it. There is an off chance eBay might actually be diligent and prevent a scam like this as they have for some sellers but they let far too many slip through.
A printed photo, seriously?
How did that even work lol that's outrageous, surely the delivery company would crosscheck the weight?
I left out some details specifically. I had told them I received the 3090 retail box with no 3090 inside. With some junk inside they used to add weight and on top there was a printed out photo of a 3090 and not a 3090.

Carriers usually do not check the weight, unless the store itself has requested it - then no one checks. BUT before you do SE for large sums - you should always carefully probe the seller and his rules, how he behaves, there are a lot of them on ebay, you always need to get one step ahead of the seller, if you do not - he will hit first and the chance of SE will fall.

I don't want to SE smaller sellers because they live from every sale.

Anyone done this?

It's incredibly easy to SE on Ebay. You can say they sent you the wrong item or send them back a box of rocks and Ebay will have your back pretty much everytime.

Brilliant SE advice from 2009 haha

Sellers actually used to do this when ipods came out.
They would sell a picture of an ipod for slightly below retail and careless people fell for it.

Not sure how they were handled but those sellers would have received a lot of negative feedback pretty so fast.
I guess like with all scams/crimes, not everyone reports the deed.
So some would have gotten away with it.
Remember someones Dad falling for it.

SEing ebay used to work for looking for sellers who sent items without tracking.
Value was usually low though, meaning less than a hundred dollars.
Sometimes the seller would send it signed for anyway.
Cant imagine this is very common nowadays as most sellers probably used delivery with proof of signature for their own protection.

They're usually the most vulnerable, namely the older generation who have little to no knowledge of how things operate.

RE: SE on eBay? #28
Would think this type of SE would have one of the success rates rates on ebay:

Refurbished phones example:
1)Find a seller who sells them in different grades
2) Buy the highest grade and return the lowest grade version

The gains with this SE are lower but success rate should be higher and you could for example swap your smashed phone for a practically new one. If you don't have a used phone, you could buy a damaged one from ebay or from craigslist etc.

Sounds good.

The key to Its success, Is dealing with refurbished phones - which can easily be manipulated and justified with the swap.

I doubt it would go unnoticed. Because they for sure check the IMEI or serial number.
When they see it doesn’t match with what they sent out, you got a problem
