Buy and return similar items. Get the refund and resell.
Bose, Belkin and Purina currently send out checks.

Shoplifting is really rather easy for day to day items. And if you know what to take exactly, you can make a good few buck from it on ebay. Not exactly SE but sounds like you might have a natural talent for something like this if you are good at talking to people. As for having a place to stay, if you look the part and do it with confidence, you can usually tailgate someone into a hostel, and afterwards into a mixed dorm and take a bed that looks empty. If someone comes at night and says its theirs, just say sorry you were drunk and got your room mixed up.

As for day to day items (shampoo, food, smaller items) I've had success going to Walmart and putting a large amount of items into a "container" and then just buying the container. Takes a bit of coordination but it's easily doable. When I first started college I ran low on money by week 2. Low as in about $50 to last me a month. I went into my local Walmart and grabbed a comforter set (Queen size if it matters) and put about $150 of product into the bag covered by the comforter. I then went to self checkout and just bought the comforter set for like $20. got home grabbed all the stuff and went back in about 3 days later to return the set for cash. I don't recommend doing this long term because chances are people will notice. However, I've done it 2-3 times last year and thankfully I wasn't caught. Anyways, hope this is somewhat helpful in some way.
Ps: when you're using the self checkout I wouldn't put the "container" (whatever it may be) on the scale. It will register that the weight is off. Thankfully the actual stations are small so you have an excuse of the said container not fitting on it. Also, acting with confidence definitely helps.
