My thought was that the courier would require payment for customs upon delivery. So in this sense a complaint delivery could be tied back to you

The courier usually asks for the payment before even attempting to deliver your package, saves them a run where you might not be home / not have the money on you / decline the deliver due to high fees
In this case, the DNA might still apply, not sure if you'd get the taxes back though

From my practice run  I figured out they hold the parcel and only release for delivery once custom fees are paid or they deliver the parcel and you get invoiced for customs later. I think I'm going to try DNA with my proper attempt.

Started the attempted and the parcel is due to be delivered with DHL. They're quite good with their POD most times, so im currently thinking of ways to prevent this. I may take my time with opening the door so the driver is in too much of a rush to take a picture or I was thinking of opening the door in my towel so the driver is apprehensive about taking a POD.

In many cases it is not like that.
To make it easier for EU customer, many UK companies opted for a duties paid option to stay competitive.
Meaning you don't have to pay fees when it arrives to your country as the retailer takes care of this themselves.
