Have you recently installed Windows XP/7/8? Use the checklist below to make your Windows ready and safe for operations.

1. Windows update (choose what to update)
   
2. Disable UAC
   
3. Install Drivers
   
4. Disable Autorun from removable devices - Use gpedit.msc
   
5. Do not preserve zone information in file attachments - Use gpedit.msc
   
6. Disk cleanup [include system files and old windows if applicable]
   
7. Disk Defragmentation (in case filesystem is NTFS)
   
8. Install your programs
   
9. Disable unneeded services (If you know what you are doing) - Use services.msc
   
10. Disable useless startup entries
    

If you have any problems in any of these then post here.

If you don't mind, check this out to add to your Window's Checklist whilst you're at it...*EMET V3.5*

I'd also advise throwing *Ccleaner* into the bargain as well as *Revo Uninstaller* as these should always be added more or less by default to any Window's installation.

Are you sure? Have you tried running Gpedit.msc from RUN. Open run by pressing Windows Button + R and type gpedit.msc.

When i install a windows,since i use the patch for make windows genune ,i make so:
-disable UAC;
-install unrar and unzip-becouse i have many program saved as rar ;
-i make the windows genuine and only after the update ;
-search driver whith driver genius and manual if i have a special driver (if necessarly i update bios)
-install and setup program ,firewall ,antivirus and browser(i don't use explorer);
-i scan the hdd whith sfc /scannow;
-i customize the registry key,start and service;
-i search other update (for the language )
-defragmentation of drive and registry and delete all temp file the prefetch file and if the update is install delete the software distribution download file.
