Prevent Links From New Members #1
I may add a feature that prevents the posting of links from new members (i.e. less than 5, 10, or 15 posts). I wanted opinions on the idea, as it could prevent new people from sharing news articles, or otherwise contributing. At the same time, it would severely hinder the spammers we've been receiving.

God, yes. It wouldn't be an immense drag for someone to post a bit before they put up a link. Plus, if the resource they wished to contribute was truly valuable, they'd probably reserve it for the community they feel more invested in anyways. This is a good attempt at encouraging investment instead of a post-and-go approach that gets lost in the oceans of spam.

Id say no, I have said this idea a lot of times already, people should have equal rights to the community, hence [hide] tags being disabled is a great idea.

Yes that's a damn good idea. Less spam means a better reputation for the forum. I wouldn't add a required sign up to view links though like on a lot of other forums because it can cause leechers to sign up on the forum that never actually use the site.

RE: Prevent Links From New Members #5
It's certainly a good suggestion, particularly to prevent spammers.

They do have a tendency to create threads with links.

I agree with this and with all the things people have said above mostly about scammers and people trying to infect members.

RE: Prevent Links From New Members #7
I also agree, this can result in fewer spammers.

I did just realize though, if you implement this this could result in people just spamming another users' threads, so I think moderators should be ready for that. Then again, spammers can be lazy so you'll never know until you try this.

I remember during the Fappening a couple years back the amount of users spamming everything to meet the 50 post requirement so they could get the leaks from our NSFW section was astounding. Despite that, I do like the idea because it will prevent a spam we deal with often.

That just gave me a good laugh. I don't think I was around back then. But yes, we do need some sort of anti spam method.
