Nowadays - no. It is not worth it. It is usually going to be cheaper to build your own, you will probably get better quality components, and you will gain experience should you ever need to troubleshoot your personal computer.

I think building your own is best. If you are to afraid to build your own and you do not want to be judge by your friends. Get a gaming laptop and tell everyone that portability was an important consideration in your buying decision
