Playing with FPGA board (digital circuits) - Altera DE2-115 with Cyclone IV 07-27-2011, 04:22 PM

Hello,
I recently bought an Altera DE2-115 development board with Cyclone IV FPGA chip, which allows me to design various digital circuits, compile and synthesize them and load into the FPGA chip, which will then basically behave like the circuit I designed.
It's not exactly programming, but I think there's no other suitable category, so I just put it here ^_^'
My main goal is to realize my experimental processor architectures as hardware, but who says that I can't have some other fun with the board? I need to get familiar with it anyway, so I'm making various other circuits ^_^'

This is the first small thing that I tried with the board, it's a simple beeping sound generator, that reads the frequency and duration data form the Flash memory on the board and plays it. I plan to also make a simple language to write the sounds/music in a friendly manner, for now I had to write them manually in HEX editor and that's tedious :lol: So for the second sound file I wrote a simple code that generated a scale of frequencies.
I can provide explanation of how it works later if you want :-) It's quite simple, the main goal is that I get familiar with the technology.
