Even though the chargeback on my bank account will be against PayPal and not ASOS?

They'll still communicate with PayPal and request Information about why your claim was declined.

It can go either way - the chargeback will not have enough evidence to approve It, or overturn PayPal's original decision and process the refund.

Because yesterday the guy on the phone from PayPal was the one who said go to your bank and do the chargeback

He's simply provided you with an alternative option to try and resolve It.

I’ll try it. If it’s declined, it’s declined. With a chargeback do you get the money instantly or is after they’ve investigated and come to a decision? I’ve never done one.

It's not Instant. If It was, everyone would be hitting a chargeback.

Before a decision Is made, they will Investigate the claim by collecting Information and evaluating It thereafter.
