Even so, not every third party seller will contact the manufacturer. Don't base your experience on each and every seller.

That aside, where does your SE currently stand?

The seller contacted me again to confirm the console is missing so that they can report to Sony, but scared that they aren't lying, I did not confirm anything. eBay sees that I started a missing items return so the seller is obligated to provide a return label, otherwise I get refunded. However, I am worried that even after the refund the seller may report it and brick it like they threatened. I called Sony and they said it can only be bricked if it was purchased directly from Sony. Now, I will have to take the risk - if the seller bought it directly from Sony or not. (The seller mentioned he is insured. The seller additionally has stores across Amazon and Walmart, so there should be no concern that he is an individual.)

You know, worst case scenario you can just use it offline, you still have a working console, bricking doesn't mean it won't turn on, just that you'll be banned from online services

As per their response below, tell them It's no problem at all, but you don't want to be In the bad books with Sony. Then ask If It was purchased directly through Sony - It will answer your above concern.

Quote:The response was: "We have a rep at Sony that we report stolen serial numbers to.

Generally with our forum, I figured this went without saying. However, recent discussion has led me to believe otherwise. People are encouraged to read and follow our rules, especially those regarding illegal content. You have been warned - @Oni

Well even it gets bricked, you could always just sell the PS5 you acquired then use that money to buy a fresh one if your initial intention was to keep it. Or you can contact Sony and tell them that you purchased a PS5 recently but the online access on your console isn't working so you just wanted to 'explore your warrenty options' and see what they say. I highly reccomend my first option though.

Update: The seller provided me with a return label, and sent me a message: Hello, the return has been approved, please note that if an empty box is shipped back to us, we will report the serial number to Sony without delay.

As of now, I'll play with the PS5 until the date required to return it. When it comes time to return it, I'll send them the empty box and see if their threats hold any water.

Stay tuned Wink

They've been owned quite a few times to state that (and give people an idea even if they were being lawful at first)
Still, order a new PS5 elsewhere and return the bricked one if it ever comes to that (from a scalper, so you can teach him a lesson too, why not?)

Why did they send you a return label if the PS5 is missing? Is there something I'm not understanding loool? What do they want you to return?
