So today I got a free computer(tower,monitor and keyboard) and it is of course ancient but I am going to upgrade the ram and clean it all up good, just haven't decided what I am going to do with it yet, I was thinking about making it into some sort of server, but since I haven't been gaming much I don't need it for that and I don't have a need for a media server and I am not putting a new hard drive in so no file server, but I am thinking of making it into a basic webserver using most likely unbuntu server. I am sure someone will suggest some other type of server OS so feel free and also if you have another idea what I should do with it, post away.

I see It's running Windows XP and given It's the original OS (OEM), It certainly Is an old machine.

If you wish to stick with the Windows platform, Windows Server 2003 will suffice. Depending on your specs, you may also get away with running Windows Server 2008.

I have plenty of old ram chips I can toss in it, some 512s,1gbs and a couple 2gbs, but I suspect it might max out at 1 being 32bit, I have some other spare parts I can fiddle with as well, from machines that were no where near this good of shape. I could keep it in the Windows family would have to look into them as I have never messed with them personally.

Windows XP In the x86 architecture (Starter Edition excluded), has a 4GB memory limit. The x64 architecture Is maxed at 128GB.

That said, given the age of your system, It depends whether the MOBO can accommodate the additional ram. If you want Windows XP Pro SP2 x64, let me know and I'll provide you with a Mediafire link.

Have you have untouched version of 98? And also I need original dos file of mario, I found only exe version and that's not original build, If you also have dos mario very appreciated

Mario I don't believe I have, but Windows 98 I definitely do- being both Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) and Windows 98 standard. Both have product keys and untouched.

I have them on disc (CD), so If you want either or both, just let me know.

I also found my 20 yrs old. Original win 98 Cd But I couldn't get the os from it, seems like cd is corrupted. If you wouldn't mind can you upload standart edition for me please

Don't use Ubuntu server, use Debian instead. It's more stable, and it's not Ubuntu.

If you wanna go really lightweight, you can go with something like Alpine Linux, but that's ridiculous.
