There are devices that allow you to connect external power, and connect the container to the PCI-E port (usually forfeiting your Wi-Fi), then you put your full size graphics card in the dock.

The main problem is that most notebook graphics cards are either integrated in the CPU or are still onboard.

Not possible, though as zorro said, you can get an external graphics card dock, but you have to have a full size graphics card to plug in.

You practically have to in most cases unsolder the chip and solder a new chip and hope it works. More than a pain in the ass, way more.

Well, yes possible for sure but considering its hard as hell to find any documentation on laptop components, I don't think you can actually order laptop GPUs unless you're a laptop manufacturer due to them being chips and easily ruined thus causing Nvidia to have to RMA it and I doubt OP could figure out how to replace it by just wingin' it even if he could get his hands on a compatible chip via robbery, I'd say it's pretty damn hard. Then again maybe you can buy them w/ an instruction manual somewhere online without getting scammed, I just haven't discovered the website yet.

You're probably better off buying a new laptop (or possibly desktop, if you enjoy upgrading). If you're only switching between a 920M to a 940M, it's probably not worth the effort. Gpuboss says there's a 0.3 difference between those cards (on 1 to 10 scale).

Depends on the manufacturer. I only encountered parts once and I wasn't going to attempt it.
