Manipulating a single broken bottle can be difficult enough, let alone justifying other Items were also damaged In transit.

If it were perfume and something like a few books then it sounds entirely plausible to me that something as sensitive to moisture as a book could also be damaged. I could be wrong though.

No they would never say that. Perfume is a strong scent and you you shouldn't have to wash brand new clothes to wear them.
I do it all the time at Sephora with 1 perfume/cologne and expensive soap, face wash, moisturizers whatever and say when I opened the box it was leaking and got all over everything. and they reship or refund the whole order.
It doesn't have to be smashed into pieces just leaking.
No need to overthink it.

No they haven't for overs in the $200-$300 range. Not sure about higher because I can't find that much I want there and I don't have a leech of a gf at the moment.
