So, I found the most retarded bug with Microsoft Windows 8.1. Windows Update breaks your OS. To make the operating system more "user friendly" MS now installs drivers for your hardware with updates. This wouldn't be such an issue, if the drivers weren't woefully outdated. For example, Windows Update installs video drivers. The current drivers for my GTX 660's are 344.75. Even though the drivers are up to date, MS feels the need to install 310.24. Nvidia has stated that these drivers ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows 8.1. Whats more, Nvidia is aware of the issue, and has reported that those drivers are not compatible with Windows 8.1 to Microsoft, and MS themselves have a workaround for the bug ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE, but have done nothing to fix the update itself. At this rate, I'm switching to linux...

I use Windows 7 instead of Windows 8, so I can't relate to this post.

That's sadly not so much a "bug" as it is a "feature" lol. It's also not new to Win 8.1; MS has been b0rking hardware drivers since I think the vista days. Back in vista/7 you could disable that, but you could also postpone updates back in Vista/7, so who knows what kind of fuckery MS pulled.

I absolutely HATE that win8 FORCES to you install updates, no postpone option... I disabled auto update because of that EXACT reason. There is no place on earth that my computer should DICTATE MY workflow.

True. It's just more prominent here. And you can actually turn driver installs off... I did it when I reinstalled, along with disabling updates altogether.

My point was, this bug literally breaks the entire install. You get a black screen on boot, even in safe mode.

yea it's stupid. The whole scene of updates in Win8 makes me want to flip tables and kick baby kangaroos honestly

I did not have this problem with Windows 8/8.1, but I would strongly suggest that you switch to Windows 7 if you still want to use Windows. If you really want to go to linux, there is one that is friendly to Windows users, but I cannot remember the name for it, as it seems it was deleted from my hard drive.

This is why you don't install Recommended Updates but only Important Updates. This kind of thing has been going on forever, way before Windows 8.1 so the OS isn't to blame.

If you are not on visual studio 2013 update 4 they also mess up the asp.net mvc functionality as you get trouble with the ajax reference.
