Manson is dead #1
This Sunday at 8:13pm Pacific Time, Charles Manson, Notorious death cult leader and convicted psychopath, has died, at the age of 83, due to natural causes, at Kern County Hospital.
There had recently been much debate about if the state should release Manson, due to the fact he technically committed no crime himself and the fact that his parole was always denied for political reasons, now the debate is over and after decades behind bars, Manson has finally succumbed to his declining health.

Honestly that's sad to hear. Politics aside there was no reason to literally imprison him for the rest of his life.

Wasn't he convicted with first-degree murder many years ago (40 years or so)?

Whatever the case, he was 83 years old and should not have been held captive. A supervised release would've been more appropriate.

I mean, asides from the fact he asked others to murder on his behalf... He should probably be in a mental institution, not prison, though.

I wasn't saying he should be free either, he was convicted and sentenced to death. That should have been the end of it but apparently that was ruled "unconstitutional" and so they changed it to 9 consecutive life sentences.

That's actually depressing news. It's easy to forget that people get old in prison. One has to consider the morals of leaving elderly in prison, specifically when their health is declining.

I don't believe in true "life in prison". I think of it two different ways
1. it's a waste of resources. reinstate chain gangs and make use of the free labor source to fix our infrastructure (roads, littering, etc)
2. it's a waste of resources. why spend money to keep them alive when sodium pentathol and morphine are cheap (lethal injection)

I'm confused about the WHOLE situation. Did he actually kill anyone? If so, I really feel like life imprisonment is fair, he took the life of "7" people, thus his life should be pretty much taken from him whether it be death penalty, or life imprisonment. Now, if he really didn't kill anyone, then I can understand:

AFAIK no, he did not. He was convicted of first degree conspiracy to commit murder

Ah, okay. My standpoint is "a supervised release would've been more appropriate."
