I just heard from cases where Mediamarkt/Saturn really pursued those stolen items, and people got police summons like a year later, so I am thinking the same could possibly happen here. Especially since they can just track the serials and Apple has all your data with FindMy/AppleID.
I was thinking the destroying route, could be a good option as I was thinking a giant company like Amazon probably won’t investigate one Defect Mac that much, they probably just write it off and throw it away, but I sadly don’t know anything about their process when it comes to that.
People got police summons for a single item like a Macbook? That doesn't seem right. It's certainly an expensive item, but not to the point where a multi-trillion dollar company would take action.
It seems like you've already made up your mind to go with the destruction route. Let us know how that goes.
