Right now you can get free .in domains. I've already gotten one as you can see here:
http://localinjection.in/
There's a few catches to this method though:
You cannot:
-Set nameservers
-Edit DNS information
-Edit HTML
Steps:
Quote:1. Go to http://www.indiagetonline.in/
2. Click "Yes, I want my free website!"
3. Click "Create my free website now"
4. Choose a domain
5. Sign up, use FakeNameGenerator info if needed. Some changes may be required.
6. WHEN YOU REACH TO "Permanent Account Number (PAN)" enter "AAAPS8791R" but change "879" to anything you want like "923" BUT KEEP IT AS 3
DIGITS
7. Verify it with your email
8. Congrats you just made your own ".in" domain!

I know it's kind of lame that your limited in setting up the website but hey its free!
I DID NOT CREATE THIS METHOD! I am simply sharing it with the forum! I've heard you could transfer the domain to another domain registrar but I haven't tried yet. Let me know if you succeed in doing this.

Yea but you can never register a domain for a lifetime even when you buy it lol. The most you could buy a domain for is 10 years so asking for a lifetime for free is pushing it. :p
