There will never be a cure for cancer. If there was ever a cure found the government would stop and destroy it immediately. Cancer is a billion dollar industry. I bet money the cure for the common cold and many other diseases have been found and stopped because of the simple fact that it would stop people from making money off of it.

A cure for cancer is extremely unlikely, but for more scientific reasons than the above.

To cure cancer, a chemical would have to be able to differentiate between a cell reproducing at a normal rate and one reproducing at, well, cancerous rates( likely by scanning the DNA of the cell), and then kill a cell( probably by lysing it ) determined to be cancerous.

A far better bet than a traditional drug would be nanotechnology you could inject into the bloodstream to perform the aforementioned tasks. As Moore's Law pans out, we will be able to produce suitable nanotechnology to effectively cure cancer within a decade or two.

The speculation that the government would stifle it is ridiculous. Even if we are speculating on a pure monetary motivation, it would still be in the government's best interests to allow a cure for cancer, tax it, and profit off of all materials needed to produce it.
