Planning to hit John Lewis with the oldest trick in the book, DNA. However, I have never shopped with them before and thus I don't even have an account with them opened at this time.

Would DNA look suspicious on a new account? Should I make a couple of legit orders before my <1000£ order suddenly does not make it to my doorstep?

John Lewis are difficult to deal with at the best of times.

Your very first purchase on a recently established account that claims a package was not received, will draw a lot more attention as opposed to a mature account with a good order history.

Ah, I thought as much. My only options then are to either wait a few months and place some legitimate orders in the meantime, or to try a method like the sealed box I think.

On a fresh account, a return of Item due to a change of mind (by using the sealed box method), Is a lot safer than claiming a discrepancy with their delivery service.

If you're planning to use other methods In the future, bear In mind that JL has CCTV cameras In operation and tends to also cross-check consignments In detail.

Yes, I'm aware that JL is pretty cautious. To be honest, I'm starting to consider an Ebay sealed box on a big retailer there instead (probably with PayPal as a backup in case things go south, although I could always just claim I wasn't aware of any item problems since I didn't open the box)

The account is old and matured enough for any method there I believe. Any advice on ebay SE? Are there any well known do's and don't's there?

On the grounds you're SEing companies that have an eBay store, the Items listed In the store Itself, are subject to the same terms & conditions as the company's retail website.

It's very similar to SEing the company directly.

Ah yes, that is what I meant. I have no interest going after the little guy.

I will have a look around for a gaming laptop under 1000£. Is there a specific method that goes better with them?
