James Avery, most famous for playing Will Smith's Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, passed away December 31, 2013, at the age of 65 [Editor's Note: This story originally mistakenly listed Avery's age as 68]. According to his manager, the cause of death was complication from an open-heart surgery performed a few weeks earlier, on November 11.

Based on the response from other actors on the Fresh Prince, it sounds as though he was a wonderful man.

He will be missed by many.
