Is TRT safe? #1
For a long time and still, till this day, some doctors will tell you that the prescription of Testosterone can cause prostate cancer and make you more aggressive and give you gyno, etc… This thinking is very out of date and just to get this out there you shouldn't get hormone advice from your primary care physician. If you want true hormone advice go to an endocrinologist. But anyway, new research has been shown to disprove most of these old-timer notions of testosterone. Ofc I currently can't post links but I would to show you my sources from PubMed currently you're just gonna have to trust me on this one.

Also, I would be considered a biased source because I am currently on TRT, but previous to my use I did do all this research and my research is what led me to make this decision to use Testosterone, but ofc it was also a choice because symptoms I had that I might talk about in another thread.

Also in my opinion testosterone is healthy, the reason I say this is because bodybuilders can blast grams of testosterone and steroids for decades and have no problems, the body can tolerate the use of testosterone and other hormones very well. we make testosterone ourselves. But what is not healthy is using such high amounts of it, this goes back to the saying everything is ok in moderation. Clinically a TRT dose is usually from 80-200 mg of testosterone a week. Anything above that would be considered a bodybuilding cycle and is used to put on muscle.
(bodybuilders will use more than a gram alone of testosterone a week, on top of other PEDs a lot harsher than testosterone)

So the main risks that people talk about are
1. vascular health (Heart health)
2. Prostate health
3. Infertility
4. Mood swings
5. Gynecomastia

1. Heart health, testosterone is said to affect vascular health negatively, it is said to lead to heart diseases and is considered the main risk when taking testosterone. In theory, I can see why they say this, the heart is a muscle and what is testosterone known to do? Increase muscle size, so you get (ardiomegaly (enlarged heart condition). However new research that I will post shows that these original studies had flaws and new data supports that it has helped to reduce vascular events. “Testosterone in men does not pose a threat to CV health and has demonstrated a heart protective effect.”[Blackwell, Kelli, et al. “Testosterone Replacement Therapy and vascular Disease: Balancing Safety and Risks in Hypogonadal Men.” Current iology reports vol. 25,10 (2023): 1157-1163. doi:10.1007/s11886-023-01935-1]

2. In prostate health, the idea was that testosterone would lead to an increase in the size of the prostate or would lead to prostate cancer, This belief originated from the work of Dr. Charles Huggins in the 1940s, who discovered that testosterone deprivation could reduce prostate cancer growth. This led to the hypothesis that increasing testosterone could potentially stimulate prostate cancer development. What we now know from the study is that TRT was not associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer in men with late-onset hypogonadism. [Santella, Christina, et al. “Testosterone Replacement Therapy and the Risk of Prostate Cancer in Men With Late-Onset Hypogonadism.” American Journal of Epidemiology vol. 188,9 (2019): 1666-1673. doi:10.1093/age/kwz138]

3. Infertility, short and simple yes testosterone causes infertility, and if you have a problem with that the use of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) helps prevent that. HCG is structurally similar to luteinizing hormone (LH), which is naturally produced in the body and plays a key role in maintaining testicular function and sperm production.

4. Mood swings, unless you doing greater than 500mgs a week of testosterone in one shot you not gonna have mood swings like aggression, but then again this is very dependent on the person if you are a happy person and slow to anger you not gonna have these problems. On the other hand, if you are aggressive this might make you more aggressive. But again testosterone will not make you more or less aggressive, a better way of putting this would be that testosterone shows more of your colors and if your colors are aggression then yes you gonna have aggression but again it’s only if you're pushing large amounts of testosterone, if you're doing a TRT dose you should be fine. It’s also good to note that testosterone has been shown to improve mood and help with depression and anxiety. It has also been shown to improve cognitive function and make you more motivated. Check out my thread on SSRIs if you want to know a little more. I might also make a thread on testosterone pros.

5. Gyno, gyno Can happen but again it depends on the person and how well they tolerate testosterone and how prone you are to it. I’ve personally had gyno since I went through puberty because it’s something you develop while your hormones are changing during puberty and on testosterone I’ve never had an increase in my gyno. If you were to have gyno or react to gyno flare-ups because of testosterone taking Aromasin will help prevent that. Testosterone can aromatase and that is what causes gyno flare up. Aromasin prevents the aromatase of testosterone preventing gynecomastia

So all in all most old-standing misconceptions around testosterone have been disproven and this is a reason why so many more TRT clinics are popping up around. If you really would like to know more about it you should schedule a consult with a TRT clinic or an endocrinologist as those are the only people I would trust to give me advice on hormones. I'll make another thread on the symptoms of low testosterone and the benefits.
