I do have a bias towards AMD. Their stock coolers may be loud and obnoxious but it gets the work done.

AMD all the way. Just got the new Ryzen 7 chip and was able to overclock to 3.5GHz easy. Getting the RX 580 in soon too, so that I can finally replace my R9 390 (390 is not really outdated yet, but it has way too many problems on Linux and rx580 works really well with AMD's new amdgpu open source drivers).

Nother' reason to go AMD are the new open source drivers. AMD open source support, although not totally developed yet, is becoming much better then NVidia's OSS support, of which is basically nonexistent.

Actually, the new AMD Wraith coolers on the Ryzen chips are actually pretty good. RGB lighting, reasonably quiet, and while I am able to OC to 3.5Ghz np.

If you want a powerful PC that will work out of the box, buy a Sparc

I'm not sure if you know what 'out of the box' means, but OK.
To most people, it means that you can install Windows and Steam, then start playing whatever. Good luck running Windows with Steam well on a processor that isn't using x86.

I have always used Intel processors, but recently I saw the new generation of AMD Thread Ripper and to be honest those numbers of physical and logical cores makes you wish you have one in your own PC. Still haven't tried AMD so I can't make comparison on my own, but it's always interesting to check out benchmark video comparing those two giant's.
