Immortality 08-04-2013, 12:12 PM

I've always been fascinated by the thought of immortality. In this case, I'm talking about biological immortality. You are not immune to disease (unless there is already a cure) and you can obviously still be knocked down and die etc...
This thread here got me thinking more about it: http://www.discussionzone.net/showthread.php?tid=6705
Everything that is you is the brain. Your body (legs/arms) isn't really you at all. It just helps you do things, same with your organs. So to achieve biological immortality, we would have to find a way to preserve the brains state. There are ongoing tests right now to achieve some form of immortality.
One problem we would have is that the body would wear through the years. Bones would get weak, muscles would fail and organs would give in etc... You would also need to keep supporting the hearts flow and other vital organs as that would likely stop with age.
Another thing is that if you were to live for hundreds of years, you would most likely forget a lot of things from your earlier life like your childhood and growing up.
I think it's an interesting topic and definitely not impossible, although it would present a lot of complications, which would be very hard to deal with.
