This guide is on how to Dual Boot windows7 and Linux.


Important: *Before You Start This is a very Image heavy guide. Make sure you can see the Images.*



When you are Dual booting with windows, you need to have windows as your Primary/Origional Partition. You will need to have a linux .iso on a disk. If you dont know how to get that see my other guide here. If you are currently running a Linux distribution use my other guide to make a windows 7 disk and make windows your primary partition before you then look at the below steps.




Fisrt of all Open the start menu and type in "Disk Management".

and click on the "Create and format hard disk partitions" option

Right click on the C: drive (going to be the Big partition called C) and click "Shrink Partition".

You will then get "Querying volume for available shrink space, please wait..." this will take a minute or two.

Then you will get a menu that will allow you to choose how much space you wish to be made available.

once you have the amount of space that you wish made available press "Shrink".
**You should give yourself about 20G's of space at lest**


If the space Windows offers doesn't correspond with what your Computer view told you was remaining, you should hit Cancel, then head back and defragment your hard drive.

Then your going to be given space which is just called "Unallocated" (you see "free Space" in my picture thats from me removing my Backtrack OS you wont have it unless you remove the linux distro after you install it.)

Now have to set your PC to boot via CDROM see my other guide here. Now just restart and install your Linux Distribution into the free space that you just made.


and yay you can now Dual boot your laptop or computer
