Hello guys!

In this tutorial you will learn how to install Kali Linux (Next Generation Backtrack OS ) on a USB Flash Drive.


So first of all you'll need:

1) Virtual Box ( Latest )
2) Virtual Box Extension Pack ( To mount the Flash Driver for installation )
3) An 8 Gb USB Flash Drive ( I'll be a using a 4GB one cuz that's the one I have )
4) KALI Linux .ISO



Open Virtual Box, Go to the settings of your Virtual OS, then to the USB Tab.
To add your USB first enable and tick the two check boxes, then press the usb add button and choose your USB device.

NOTE: If your device doesn't appear on the add list, make sure your USB port is 2.0

Now we need to mount the .ISO file on Virtual Box for that goto the Storage tab on the same windows. If you have an existing storage controller click on it. Then press the small CD Button, click the "Choose Virtual CD/DVD" and navigate to your KALI .ISO Image. You have mounted your .ISO image.

OK we are set to go! Click OK and on the main Virtual Box screen press the Start Button, Be sure that you have selected the current OS:

After starting your Virtual OS, A KALI Linux starter screen will appear. Select the 'Graphical Install' from the menu and press Enter.

After you've reached the Partition Part, you will see 4 options. If you want to setup the partitions manually then go with the "Manual" option otherwise I recommend use the "Guided - Use Entire Disk" option. On the next screen you will have to select on which drive you want to install KALI, As we want to set it up on our Flash Drive, Select your USB Drive from the list.

Once the setup finishes, Close the Virtual OS. Restart Windows, Plug IN your Flash Drive and boot from it.

You now have a Portable Penetration Testing OS in your Pocket

I have tried this several times and it doesnt work... :/

i get the error :
"Failed to create filesystem"

@binary Well the tutorial works perfectly, you just need to follow the steps correctly. Can you give me a snapshot of that error of yours?

Yea followed the steps a few times, like 5. and also tried with 32bit and 64bit.
i have also tried 3 different laptops.
have also tried 4 different usb sticks....

Compare the Hash of your .iso and the one on the official website, to see if the image is not corrupt

The usb's iv tried with are 8gb and 4gb.
i have also tried the normal install and the encrypted lvm install.
nothing seems to work, driving my head in for the past week.

ok can understand why the hash looks different, i had kali 1.02 and i see the one im downloading now is 1.0.3...

Compare the hash of the image that you currently have, Stacking at the Installation part for me means a corrupt image. Give a shot at the new version

Have downloaded kali about 4 times since we last spoke, direct and torrent. on 2 different computers.... no hash's are matching to the website.

also noticed, the torrent version is 1.0.2 and the direct download is version 1.0.3....annoying :/

Tried the amd version again, downloaded it again, checked the hash, didnt work.
