How to install, Configure & Run Tor in GNU/Linux With Google Chrome
Hello, [username]
This is a very basic tutorial on setting up Tor (The onion Router) on a GNU/Linux system, the configuration is for Ubuntu/Mint based distributions but will work in any distro.
Fedora uses YUM so please replace apt-get with YUM!

The reason Tor needs configuring is because there is a fault in the latest distros in which Tor will be assigned as a daemon on startup, this is a good thing, but because we will be using "Vidalia" which bootstraps Tor, it's not ideal to run a process twice which will result in conflict.
Anyhow, let's get started!
Step One - Install, Configure And Run.
Open your terminal, and type: sudo apt-get install tor vidalia bum

## Sorry about the image where I added "Polipo and Privoxy" They're not needed for this tutorial
If a graphical "ncurses" display appears asking for which users should control the daemon.
Press space to accept your own login username then enter.
Bum - Boot Up Manager We will use "bum" to clear the daemon for Vidalia.
Accept the packages to download & it's associated dependencies. It's not big.
Also, grab your self a coffee or a biscuit, as we're just starting. :epic:
Once installed, open up "Vidalia" from your applications menu.

Oh no! An error.
Don't worry though, we'll fix it, there are two things we need to do.
As I said earlier, BUM will be used to remove the startup daemon - As the Tor process is already running.
This blocks Vidalia from starting Tor.
Don't close Vidalia yet!
Open another Terminal and type: sudo bum
Wait for the application to finish processing.

Now you will see Tor as actively running.
Untick the box and click "Apply"

It will ask you if you want to "Start" or "Stop" the service.
Yes we want to "Stop" tor so Vidalia can take over. Hit "Yes"
Now Close "Bum"
And go back to Vidalia.
Click Settings then go to "Advanced" and choose "Use TCP Connection".
Click "Ok" and exit Vidalia, Re-open it can it should connect without errors.
Step Two - Verify a Tor connection with Google Chrome - Install Proxy Extension
Why didn't I use Firefox for this tutorial? Because Tor is easy to use with Firefox and a lot of people use Google Chrome and don't know how to use Tor with Chrome.
Ok, head over to Google Chrome. We will now install an extension onto our browser from the Store, to work with Tor.
If you don't know how to get to the Chrome Extension store, just type "Chrome Extensions in Google"
Once there, we need to install the Extension "Proxy Switchy Sharp"

Once installed, you will have a Globe like, icon on your Chrome, We need to change the settings.
Follow the picture.

Make sure "Socks v4" is selected.
Click Save & close.
Now click the globe extension again and click "Tor"
This will enable the connection and we can verify.

Voila! Connected.
In the next tutorial. I will cover this further on setting up both Privoxy And Polipo.
To use as Web Proxies.
I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial

It only takes a second to say "Thanks"
If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Kind Regards,
Conch.
