I tried Arch. After some time gave up. I guess I'm a hipster lol.

Mint was the one I liked the most as a beginner . Next would be Fedora.
Still looking for the one. As someone who is a complete noob when it comes to hacking any suggestions would be helpful. Is Windows that bad or is it just propaganda?

Is Windows bad? in all honesty that depends on what you are planning to do with it, each OS has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

I'm not surprised you gave up with Arch, it's designed for advanced users and requires a lot of time to configure, not something that a beginner will be comfortable with although some people do start off with it and get there in the end but the learning curve is steep.

To be honest I prefer Linux when it comes to pentesting/developing but that's more personal preference than anything, plus I hate Microsoft

Mint is OK but perhaps Ubuntu or Debian would make a good choice for you?

No shit Arch is hard. I got it working and everything but deleted the bootloader or something. The community tried its best to help me but it just did not work out. However it was one of the best experience ever and not just in terms of Linux experience but also a life experience. The uncertainty was just indescribable. It was problem solving at its best. It forced me to think and I loved the feeling. I think the best way is to start with Debian and at the right time just to Arch.
Took the test. It said OpenSuse is a good choice too.

OpenSuse is also a good choice, just try a few and see how you like them, after all they are all on live DVD's so you have nothing to loose. Yes Arch can be a nightmare to get running but is so rewarding once you get everything set up the way you like it, and is a great learning experience with a fantastic community behind it.

I also wanted to use/learn Arch... But being a windows user and linux noob (no wonder why the test said I'm 100% match with openSuse and 95% with Mint, Ubuntu... ) I've chosen Manjaro.
It's based on Arch, with almost all benefits of Arch (rolling release, extensive wiki, compatibility with AUR...) and above all it's easy to install with simple to use graphical installer. (well I guess Antergos is also ).

But, if I wasn't that determined to use Arch, the test would be spot on!!! :Thumbs-Up:

if anyone is interested in unusual linux distros try red star linux it is north koreas attempt at their own OS the installer is gui and is in korean but there are videos out there showing how to do it, i have these videos if you want to play message me. there are 2 disks one for the os and one for software including ripoffs of word and other stuff (in a country without the copyright laws elsewhere they can do what they want really). You can change the language to english once installed i also have these details. the only download i found for the isos is one torrent probably because they tried to keep this OS in north korea but one russian guy ended up getting a copy. the first time i installed this on a virtual machine with no network adapter my host machine ended up getting a lot of blue screens, not sure why but i ended up having to reinstall so use this at your own risk.

Personally, It should be your choice but It's a good way for newbies who are thinking to take a step into linux from Windows or Other OS.
