One approach Is to use the disposed of the faulty Item method.

Another option Is to (obviously) box them.

Evidently, hence you match the wrong Item's weight with the original/purchased Item.

As an update, the SE ultimately succeeded via the SB method and I got refunded. I was informed by another user of the forum, that  it could somehow be possible to double dip by using the serial number and contacting the company that manufactures the product. Is this a viable option? if so, what steps could I take to execute this?

Thanks

There are a number of methods available, but you haven't stated the Item In question.

Given It contains a serial, It's a tech-based product so claim that It's defective and when they request the return, box them. That's provided the Item Is of reasonable size and weight.

a gpu worth £1.6k, weighing 1.3kg, shipping weight ~2.3kg.

Where I live I don't have access to dry ice, so are there any other possible methods?

dirt or old defective gpu from ebay comes to mind.. then simply reroute the package to another company nearby? ("FTID")

Good to hear! May I ask how exactly you did it? Where did you open the package, what did you put inside and how have you resealed the package?
Enjoy the GPU! Smile

In terms of the sealed box method, you can replace the original Item with anything of equal weight.

You can use anything - a well sealed bag of sand is good as you can easily add / remove sand to match the weight. for resealing you should just make sure to peel stickers slowly and carefully so that they do not get damaged, allowing convincing reapplication. I'm confused - why does it matter where I opened the package?

Handling the box when scanning and placing It back Into stock, may generate a sound that's consistent with sand/dirt, so be sure It's tightly packed.

It may be difficult with some sealing material to seal it back perfectly on some areas.
Usually you don't open the film "in the middle", but possibly at the edges or corners. Because there the seal usually looks "not completely smooth" or "new", in my experience.

I am just curious.
